HORNETS STING STAYNER IN HOME OPENER

The Stayner Siskins finally had their Jr C home opener last night, hosting last year’s Ontario Champions the Alliston Hornets to a poorly attended game of about 150. You’ll recall from our previous post that Stayner had to cancel last Sunday’s game because the town didn’t have the ice in the arena.

Alliston eventually won this game in a shootout 5-4, and we use the word “game” questionably……

MAPLE LEAFS 2011: THE REST OF THE STORY

The Toronto Maple Leafs enter this NHL season like every other, a ton of optimism and uncertainty. After a strong initial start to last season, 4-0-1 the wheels fell off winning just 15 over there next 44 games for an embarrassing winning percentage of 34%. Sent packing was Beauchemin, Versteeg and Kaberble. Entering the room were Lupul, along with call ups Keith Aulie and James Reimer. No one sparked the Leafs like James Reimer who led the Leafs to an impressive finish winning 18 of their final 33 games, a 54% winning percentage. So which team shows up in 2011? Will it be the solid team over the final 1/3rd of the season, or the brutal team in the first 2/3rd’s?…….. Read more of this post

ARMY, NAVY, MARINE…TOWN PARKING OFFICIAL ?

Morgan Ian Adams recently commented on his run in with the parking by law officials of Collingwood, check out http://eastendunderground.wordpress.com/ for his thoughts.

We as well have felt the wrath of these walking crusaders for justice.  Just the other week I popped into the drug store on Hurontario and was dinged with a ticket.  I wasnt in there for more than five minutes Read more of this post

TORONTO WORST SPORTS CITY IN WORLD !!

Columnist Cathal Kelly of the Toronto Star takes issue with ESPN’s opinion that Toronto is “ The Worst Sports City in the World” in his Tuesdays article.

ESPN’s latest shot at the great city of Muddy York was published on their upmarket web platform Grantland. The short version of the article is this….nobody loves hockey more than Toronto; and Toronto is terrible at hockey.

COLLINGWOOD MINOR HOCKEY IN DISARRAY

We’ve commented a few times about what we thought were some issues within the CMHA, and its seems we were correct.  It’s been brought to our attention that President Chris Potts and fellow board member Gary Lisi have quit CMHA.  Several board member had quit earlier in the year.

We have received many emails with what seems several ongoing issues within the CMHA that may have caused these resignations. Read more of this post

WASAGA REC PLANS MOVE FORWARD, NO REPLIES FROM COLLINGWOOD

Peter Dunbar who is leading the Wasaga Beach strategic plan for recreational services was on the Chats program this morning giving an update.  They seem to be moving strongly forward in getting public and department input into the future needs of the town.

Their survey response is at almost 3% and they continue to have public open house Read more of this post

ALLISTON HORNETS ROUGH START

We may have over estimated the Hornets chances this season in our Jr C preview post earlier this month.

At the preseason tournament in Alliston they looked somewhat disorganized, but had a lot of talent on the ice.  We chalked that up to Sandy McArthy getting his feet wet in the Jr ranks.  But after a third period implosion in their home opener against Stayner handing them the win, Read more of this post

CMHA BOARD MEETINGS NOT FOR PUBLIC REVIEW

We posted last week that Past President of the Collingwood Minor Hockey Association Anthony Griffiths had commented on the possible uses of the associations ‘building fund’ in the Central Park redevelopment project.  That raised the question to us of whether the members of the association were aware 1) that  a portion of their registration fees, fundraising, gate fees, etc…. were going to fund town projects and 2) what discretion there is in uses of the fund and by who.

Current President of the CMHA Chris Potts replied to us after several requests that he would not release any meeting minutes to us. Read more of this post
