CCI FOOTBALL & FUNDRAISER
September 9, 2011Posted by on
Over 100 potential players take to the football fields this week as CCI holds its junior and senior tryouts.
Players will be on the fields from 3:15 until 5pm each day, battling for their spots on this year’s squads. The seniors will play their first exhibition game on Friday Sept 16th, with league play for both teams starting Sept 21st. For more info on the program and a full schedule, check out the CCI link on the left side of our main page.
Wayne Hunwicks President of the Fighting Owls Alumni and senior team coach says “ both teams are expected to be very young this year, with an especially high turnover on the junior team”. It seems to be a great opportunity for players to get some football experience quickly this season, so good luck to all trying out!
The Fighting Owls Football Alumni will be hosting a fundraiser at OslerBrook Golf and Country Club on Thursday Sept 22nd. Golf registration is at 10am, with a shotgun start at 11am. Golf, cart, steak dinner, gift bag and the guest speaker are all included for the $150 entry fee. All profits will be used to provide a permanent electronic scoreboard and bleacher seating at the CCI field.
Highlighting the event is motivational speaker Terry Evanshen a CFL multi award winner and Hall of Fame inductee. He is also the subject of a book and CTV movie The Man Who Lost Himself. Evanshen suffered through a terrible automobile accident leaving him with severe loss of memory among other things, and has battled back to find his life again with family and career. It’s a truly remarkable story and well worth attending for all ages.
